Welcome to Paradise
2022, 4K video with sound, loopIn this one-shot video loop, the camera traverses a vast natural landscape in pursuit of a majestic mountain peak on the horizon. Although the journey goes on endlessly, the mountain remains forever in the distance. The work is inspired by the establishing shots from Hollywood films. Such shots - often dramatic helicopter shots - are used to introduce the location where a film is set. In Welcome to Paradise, the viewer is lead to believe that the journey might eventually culminate in the arrival at the mountain. This climax however, will never come. Or will it?
